Oculus Plans To Release Live Action VR Movies For CV1 Release

Oculus has just signed a deal with Felix & Paul Studios, the Canadian VR company behind shorts like Cirque Du Soleil's Zarkana and the Wild Experience starring Reese Witherspoon. Oculus plans to produce movies and experiences for the consumer Rift headset in time for its Q1 2016 launch.

Some of the better experience so far have been focused on CG experiences but live action has perhaps even greater potential but is more difficult to achieve.

The problem will all these movies so far is their length. Most only last a few minutes with the longest I've seen going for about 12 minutes with David Attenborough VR Experience.

The partnership is reported to be a multi project and multi-year project so Oculus sees the device as far more than just for games and certainly wishes to explore other areas.

In one the Felix and Paul shorts in Jurassic World: Apatosaurus you get to experience what it's like to be in the presence and close proximity of a living dinosaur. Can you imagine watching the latest Jurassic movie in VR?
I can, and I cannot wait!
