The amazingly popular Minecraft game is now available for the Oculus Rift. The Windows 10 Beta edition received a free update that enables Rift support. For those of you not on Windows 10, yet another reason to upgrade if you are a Minecraft fan. However, I am frequently amazed at the success of Minecraft given it looks like a game from the 80s.
Minecraft VR Experience
With the VR version control is with the Keyboard, mouse and Xbox game controller. To help reduce VR nausea the developer has employed a few techniques to reduce, but not eliminate nausea. The game features two modes of play, the first-person mode and the virtual living room where you are placed in a virtual room with a large screen where the game is displayed. You can easily toggle between each mode.
When in first person mode instead of spinning around left or right with the controller, you can snap turn which moves your view 22 degrees instantly.
If you already have the Windows 10 Minecraft edition, then the VR update is available for FREE from Oculus home.

Minecraft VR Rating
Virtual Reality is intended to make you feel like you are part of another world. Graphical realism should be high on your list, but this just does not apply to Minecraft (think 80s video game.)
However, if you are into Minecraft, this will not bother you one bit. You will probably be more interested in potential nausea from playing which can be pretty bad in the first-person view. Personally, I lasted 15 minutes and switched to the alternate view. Without the alternative view, Minecraft would be receiving a 4/10 on the barf scale!
Barf Factor: 6/10
Cost: Free update to existing Minecraft game
