CES 2017 - What is coming for VR and AR?

This week and into next week. VRCircle will be dedicated to VR and AR at the upcoming CES 2017, officially kicking off on Thursday, January 5. What cool stuff can we expect? Here is the rundown on some of the items we are looking forward to:

KwikVR by Scalable Graphics

KwikVR by Scalable Graphics is the Universal Wireless Virtual Reality solution to untether the existing PC headsets, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, as well as the upcoming devices. KwikVR provides a full freedom VR experience at native headset resolution and frequency with a minimal latency overhead.

We shall be trying this out to see if the reality meets the hype.

HTC Vive

HTC is not expected to release any new products during CES; perhaps their updated controller will be shown. HTC is focusing on software with a rather large lineup of demos covering areas such as entertainment, Business & Enterprise, Health & Medical, Education and Mixed Reality.

Fraunhofer IIS

Fraunhofer IIS is probably not a company you have heard of. However, it is very likely you own some of their technology. You know those MP3 music files you listen to? Yeah? They developed that. The little known German company developed the 3D surround sound audio for both Samsung’s Gear VR and LG’s VR device. Fraunhofer IIS will be showcasing VR related audio technology. As a bit of a headphone geek myself, I look forward to this.
