ImmersiON-VRelia GO and Blue-Sky PRO HMD - CES 2015

ImmersiON-VRelia GO and Blue-Sky PRO MHD

I met with Manuel Gutierrez Novelo, founder of ImmersiON-VRelia at CES 2015. If you’ve not heard of ImmersiON-VRelia before, they are a spinoff from TDVISION who previously sold VR devices to the military and worked on the Blu-Ray codec.

ImmersiON-VRelia are releasing two new HMD products, the GO and Blue-Sky PRO.

ImmersiON-VRelia GO
The GO version of the HMD display is intended to work with your phone in a similar way to the GearVR device. However the GO allows you to use almost any smartphone with screen sizes from 4” to 6” such as Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, 4, iPhone etc. The device comes with clip attachments to allow the various phones to fit snugly into the GO device.
The device was light and relatively comfortable. The final version will have more comfortable face attachment than the prototype I tried said Manuel.

On both sides of the headset you'll find optical correction systems. You can adjust the focus of the device to suit your vision. That means you don't have to wear glasses with the GO.

Next to the interpupillary (IPD) distance controls and dioptric adjusters on each side are slots that give easy access to your headphone jack on the phone. You'll also be able to charge your device without having to remove it from the headset.

I tried a simple demo walking around the inside of a building with the ImmersiON controller. Although a simple demo it worked pretty well with similar pixel density to GearVR (GO was using the Note 4)
In February ImmersiON will launch their ALTERPSACE online portal which will provide additional content in time for the US launch in February.
Before the launch of ALTERSPACE, you can use apps such as the VRPLayer and The Hobbit VR

Technical Details
  • Field of view (FOV): Depends on SmartPhone used.
  • Weight: 7oz
  • Interpupillary (IPD) Adjustment: Manual adjustment of IPD on the device
  • Eyesight Adjustment: Manual focus on the device, so no need for glasses
  • Refresh rate: Dependent on device, normally 60 fps.
ImmersiON-VRelia GO Pricing and Availability

ImmersiON-VRelia Blue-Sky PRO MHD
The Blue-Sky PRO HMD device was unfortunately not ready to demo when I was with them. It does however sound like an exciting device as it uses 2 vertical screens inside the HMD. If you know the history of Palmer Luckey’s early prototypes he toyed with 2 screen designs before settling on the one screen. We shall see how ImmersiON do with their 2 screen designs.
Here is what we know about the Blue-Sky PRO HMD device so far:

  • Resolution: 1920x1080x2 (Full HD per eye)
  • Latency: 30 ms
  • Screen Door Effect: TBD, but I imagine pretty small
  • Optics: Dioptrics and Inter Pupilar Distance are adjustable by the user
  • Motion Tracking: The BT and the G1 version will use a highly advanced sensor with very low latency. In the G2 version (HMD and HUD) will make use of cameras for improved accuracy.
