CES 2017 - We try TPCast Wireless HDMI for HTC Vive

Have you tripped over your HTC Vive cable recently or almost pulled the cable from your computer? Yeah, me too.

TPCast wireless HDMI/USB solution for the HTC Vive aims to solve this problem. During CES last week I had a chance to try it out for myself.

Is Wireless HDMI as good as wired?

In just a short time we have come from tethered VR with long cables to even carrying your entire computer on your back with an MSI backpack. Now we have the wireless HDMI from TPLink, but is it good enough?
In a word, yes. I played for about 20 minutes with the TPLink, and during my time I did not notice any lag or stuttering all while being completely free from worrying about the cable behind me. TPCast state the lag is no longer than 2ms and I could not interrupt the signal by placing my hand in front of it. It worked perfectly every time. Impressive indeed.

The TPCast fits comfortably in my back pocket of my jeans. Naked gamers need not apply. Weight was not a problem I quickly forgot it was there.

The battery will last how long?

TPCast will ship with a 6,000mAh battery said to be good for about two hours of use per charge. TPCast also has an "XL Option" which will provide up to five hours of action.

When and how much?

TPCast has already been available for pre-order on the HTC Chinese site. During CES HTC announced the TPLink will be available in Q2 2017 for $249.
