I was moved to tears when I first watched the Apollo 11 experience on the Oculus Rift. Have you tried it?
On September 19, the Kennedy Space Center in Florida launched a similarly themed experience called “Destination Mars.” This exhibit allows people to experience the red planet, with a hologram of Buzz Aldrin as their guide, using the Microsoft HoloLens.
Users are in a room where they can walk around and experience this “mixed-reality” state, and can explore the grounds where the Mars Curiosity rover made some of its amazing discoveries!
Buzz Aldrin, who flew on the Apollo 11 mission as the lunar module pilot, he was one of the first two humans to land on the Moon, and the second person to walk on it was there at the opening:
"Technology like HoloLens leads us once again toward exploration," Aldrin said. "It's my hope that experiences like 'Destination: Mars' will continue to inspire us to explore."
The Microsoft HoloLens Developer version is available for $3,000 direct from Microsoft
