On Wednesday this week, Microsoft announced they are working on a new $299 VR/AR headset. During the event, very little information was shared by them to the technical details of the headset.
However, it now appears Microsoft will be shackled to the PC just as with Oculus and HTC. On closer examination of on-stage demonstration, the host headset showed a long wire. Additionally, a promotional image for these headsets shows a discrete connection to a laptop in the background.
Given the headset is connected to Laptop, it does beg the question who powerful a system is needed? Although there are VR ready laptops capable of driving VR by the mobile GTX 1060, they are far from commonplace.
