Oculus Rift CV1 - What you need to know

Oculus Rift CV1 - What you need to know
Oculus have completed stage one of their master plan to replace the real world with the most awesome VR
environment the world has ever seen.

Stage 1 of course is the final announcement of the shipping date for Oculus Rift Consumer Version. Which is of course Q1 2016

Oculus will be sharing more information over the coming weeks but this is what we know now:

Where to buy Oculus Rift?

The Oculus Rift will be sold online directly from the www.Oculus.com web site. There is talk about retailer availability but I suspect this will be later. If you want it straight away you will be able to pre-order later this year.

We will probably take [pre-orders] on Oculus.com, but retail is going to be a big part of our strategy,

When can I buy the Oculus Rift?

Oculus Rift CV1 will be available in Q1 2016. Current rumors are leaning towards early Q1 release so that could make a great Valentines Day gift :-)

What hardware do I need for Oculus Rift?

Unlike Gear VR the Oculus Rift is primarily intended as a mega gaming peripheral. The Oculus Rift CV1 will require a mid-high end PC. Remember the Crescent Bay has previously been demonstrated on a Falcon Northwest Tiki with GTX 980.

How much will Oculus Rift Cost?

Overall when we look at VR we see two product categories, the high end that will be represented by the Rift and the low end represented by our collaboration with Samsung.
Samsung Gear VR costs $200. That’s on top of the phone that powers it — which generally cost $649 or more. Therefore it appears as if the Oculus Rift CV1 may come in around $500 or perhaps even more.
