Samsung started shipping their Oculus powered Gear VR back on November 20 to lucky customers in the US. Today it is the turn of those residing in the UK. Often the UK price reflects the US price just with a £ in front. The release price is a very reasonable £80. Initially the consumer Gear VR will only be available in Samsung stores but its UK launch will continue with O2 shops early in 2016.
Assuming you already own a compatible Gear VR phone (Note 5, S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+) you will be good to go.
In terms of resulution and field of view (FOV) the new consumer Gear VR is the same as the original Gear VR while selling for half the price of the original. The consumer Gear VR is however 19% lighter to hopefully reduce the feeling of something being stuck on your head.
If you're looking to pick up a Gear VR you may also want to consider a wireless controller if you don't already have one. Oculus recommends the Bluetooth Steelseries Stratus XL which works for both Windows + Android for around £54 from Amazon.
